We began roasting as cafe owners to create a smarter business in a challenging market. 

Turns out, roasting coffee yourself was a good way to maintain quality, make our offering different to others, increase margins, and create another income stream. (We sold the coffee in retail bags.) 

The process was meaningful too. We roasted house coffees, chose coffees aligned with our values, and created more transparency in the supply chain. We wanted others in the industry to have the same opportunity. 

So we got a nice space in East Vic Park, upgraded to the finest roaster on the market, took out all the other things that make roasting costly, and created Modern. 

Today, we like to think of ourselves as a solution provider, shared roaster, community, and strategic partner. It’s where business owners (and coffee enthusiasts) come to access the best facilities, support and network to create delicious coffee and a smarter business. 

As the industry continues to shift and change, we believe it's a more modern way of helping you (and the community at large) succeed.
